~ Classes and Workshops ~
Fall / Winter 2011-2012
Scheduling and Registration Information
Once again, Mad About Ewes will be
scheduling ALL classes on an individual basis instead of scheduling a particular
class on a given date. If you are interested in taking a class on a week
night, at least two participants would be needed to hold a class (recruit
a friend!), otherwise, classes can be scheduled on weekdays or Saturdays.
Registration for a class can be done over the phone (570-441-5167) or by
e-mail. Payment is due
at the time of registration, either by PayPal or a check in the mail. You
will receive a full refund if you cancel no less than (7) days prior to your
scheduled class. If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, it will
be rescheduled.
So check out the list below and see
if there's anything that interests you! Call or zap me an e-mail to sign
up!!!
Beginning Knitting
If you've been thinking about learning
how to knit, but haven't found a class that suits your busy schedule, look
no further! Beginning knitting consists of two 2-hour workshops, scheduled
at your convenience. Come learn basic knitting skills and then, upon completion
of the class, start your first project. Participants must provide their own
materials: a set of size 8 straight knitting needles, and some practice yarn
in worsted weight. Pattern for your first project and other hand outs are
provided.
Cost of class: $45
Weird Stuff You Gotta Know
This two hour workshop is designed for
the advanced beginner knitter who is ready to move beyond scarves, but needs
some more knowledge to do so. All those pattern abbreviations like SSK, PSSO,
M1L, and K2togtbl can be confusing and intimidating until you see how they're
done - piece o' cake! Bring a set of straight needles in size 7 or 8, and
some practice yarn in worsted weight, and learn some simple stitch techniques
that will take your knitting to the next level.
Cost of class: $30
Magic Loop
You've been knitting socks or mittens
on double pointed needles for years, but you keep hearing about the Magic
Loop technique
.Say good-bye to those pesky DP needles and say hello
to Magic Loop! This is a one hour mini workshop that you can fit in to any
busy schedule! Participants need to bring a set of 40" circular needles in
any size ranging from a 2 - 8. Practice yarn will be provided.
Cost of class: $15.
Cables, Baubles, and Buttonholes
This two hour workshop will take the
mystery out of making cables and buttonholes, and introduce you to the bauble,
which can act as an attractive and interesting embellishment to scarves,
hats, mittens, or sweaters. Participants should bring a set of straight needles
in size 7 or 8 and some practice worsted weight yarn.
Cost of class: $25
Beginning Spinning
There's NO greater satisfaction than
creating your own yarn for that special knitting, crocheting, or weaving
project. Welcome to the world of hand spinning, an art that is NOT lost,
but is alive and well, even in our current hi-tech world. This one day class
will cover different types of sheep and wool, how to wash a raw fleece and
prepare it for spinning, spinning on a drop spindle, the difference between
top and roving, woolen vs worsted, and finally
.spinning a singles and
a 2-ply yarn. All materials are provided.
Cost of class: $75
Spinning 201 - Plying Techniques
OK, so you've been spinning for awhile
now - you feel comfortable "behind the wheel", and you're ready to add some
texture and interest to your finished yarn. A variety of plying methods can
do the trick. Come spend a morning or afternoon (4 hour workshop) learning
to Navajo ply, Andean ply, make a "beaded" yarn, and two methods to create
a boucle yarn. Participants may bring their own wheel (preferable) or use
the Ashford Traveller here at the studio. Roving is provided, or you may
bring some of your own with which to experiment.
Skill level - intermediate - participant
MUST be comfortable spinning a basic 2-ply yarn.
Cost of class: $45
Cuff Down Magic Loop Socks
You'd like to start knitting socks,
but those double pointed needles look intimidating
.Have no fear! This
is the class for you. Learn to knit socks, one at a time from the cuff down
using the Magic Loop technique. This is a one day class - participants will
knit a mini sock in class, and take home a pattern for adult size socks.
You will need a 40" circular needle, size 4. Yarn for class sock will be
provided.
Skill level: Advanced beginner/intermediate
- experience with knitting in the round on a circular needle or double points
is helpful. MUST know the long tail cast on.
Cost of class: $40
Two-At-A-Time Toe Up Socks
I know, it sounds scary
..but it's
NOT! Never suffer from "SSS" (Second Sock Syndrome") again! Learn how to
knit BOTH socks at the same time from the toe up on ONE circular needle.
Skill level: intermediate/advanced
Participants MUST know the long tail cast on, and have experience knitting
in the round. You will need to bring your own materials to this class: one
40" circular needle in a size 1 or 2, and TWO different colors of fingering
weight sock yarn, about 25 yds of each. You will take home patterns for both
the mini version (makes great holiday ornaments!) and the adult size sock
pattern.
Cost of class: $50
